Press mentions works by searching a set of sources for your name on a schedule and putting what it finds in your dashboard. Backstage and YouTube are two of those sources. Here is how that runs and, more usefully, how it verifies itself.
The hard part is not the searching
Fetching results from a source is straightforward. The difficulty with any scheduled job that depends on somebody else's service is knowing whether it is still working.
A source can change the shape of what it returns without ever returning an error. It answers, the response arrives, the status is fine, and the thing you were looking for is now nested one level deeper or renamed. A job that expects the old shape finds nothing, reports no error, and records a successful run that discovered zero results.
Zero results is also exactly what a genuinely quiet week looks like. Which is the whole problem: success and silent failure produce identical output.
So the check is on the outcome, not the status
Each pass records what it retrieved as well as whether it completed. A run that returns nothing where the source demonstrably has something, or a source that goes from returning results to returning none and stays there, raises an alert rather than being logged as a clean run.
That is the general shape worth borrowing: verifying that a job ran is not the same as verifying it did anything. Anything scheduled and unattended needs a check on its output, not on its exit.
