The standard pages on an actor website cover what every actor needs. Custom pages cover what only you need. Add one, name it, write on it, and it appears in your menu like any other page.
The gap this fills
Every actor has at least one thing that does not fit a template. You teach a workshop. You are producing a short. You have a second craft. You run a podcast. You are raising money for a project. None of those belong on your credits page, and shoehorning them into your bio makes the bio worse.
Ideas that actually earn their place
- A single-production page. While a show is running, a page with dates, the venue, the trailer and a booking link is far more useful than a line in your credits. Hide it when the run ends, using the switch described in the pages screen.
- Coaching or workshops. What you teach, who it is for, what it costs, how to book. This is often the page that pays for itself. Our workshops and training guide goes further.
- Self-tape services. If you read for other people's tapes, say so with rates and turnaround.
- A causes page. Covered properly in adding a charitable causes page.
- A second discipline. Writing, directing, music. Keep it separate from your acting material rather than blending them.
What makes a custom page work
One subject, one purpose, and one thing you want the reader to do at the end. A page that tries to be a bio, a sales pitch and a diary at once achieves none of them. The rich text editor gives you headings and lists precisely so you can break a page into readable parts.
End with an action. A booking link, an email, a form. Our note on a clear call to action is short and worth reading before you write one of these.
The discipline part
Custom pages are the easiest way to make a tidy site messy. Two rules keep it under control. First, if a page has been empty for a month, hide it. Second, if you cannot say in one sentence who the page is for, it is not ready.
An abandoned page hurts more than it looks like it should. It is a thin page for search engines and a dead end for visitors, and it makes everything around it look neglected. The same argument appears in our uncluttered design piece.
